About
I’m a graduate student and new mother who spends her free time knitting. I find that knitting is such a powerful addiction that its presence in my life must be tightly controlled. As a procrastinator, I’ve always fought off the temptation to knit instead of work. Often, knitting projects threaten my exercise time as well so my rule is EXERCISE BEFORE KNITTING.

Hi,
I found your blog through Mustaa Vilaa, and the Sunrise Hat looks great! I clicked the link but can’t find the pattern. Is it still available, perhaps for purchase?
Thanks for your blog, it’s a great read.

Elinor,
Hi there. I LOVE your winter sunrise hat! On yarn substitutions, would you say I need the whole 180 yds of the two colors? I’m subbing Knit Picks Telemark (I think. That’s the sportweight one, right?), and it comes in balls of something like 110 yds each. So I’d need two of each, plus the red I want on the edge? Just wondering since I’m hoping to do a couple for Christmas presents, and I don’t want to over order or under order. Neither is very fun.
Thanks so much!

Dear Elinor,
I really started knitting seriously in graduate school. I found I could concentrate on the papers I was writing by taking 15 minute knitting breaks to let information percolate in my brain. When I would go back to writing, I would often stumble on some new way of looking at the material. Must have worked. Got through graduate school with only one B and 15 years later I am still knitting (and still learning)! Good luck!

I was intrigued by your blog site name (found you via a link on a website to one of your posted patterns) as I have completely fallen off the exercise wagon since starting my knitting addiction!! I must admit that the knitting was more therapeutic than exercise while sitting in the hospital at my sick mother’s bedside - but I would like to get back on the exercise horse AND continue to improve my knitting. I am adding your site to my address book. i am also on ravelry as soozilah. happy knitxercise! or should I say exerknit?
Thank you so much for the inspiration! Exercise before knitting. Exercise isn’t the only aspect of my life that has been neglected due to my knitting addiction! I think, however, I need to start with baby steps, knit a few rows, go for a walk! Knit a few rows, clean the kitchen.(Don’t want to have to deal with withdrawal!) The only part of my life that the addiction hasn’t taken over is my regular job and “special” time with my husband. Thanks again for your great site and great patterns.
Hello Elinor,
Viewed your patterns at Knitting Pattern Central.
They are delightful.
However, the best part was your link to Mid America Running and the MD5K Race, at which I was a volunteer. Thank you from the KC Express.
Knit on….you are a purl.
